UPSC Examination has been
‘speculated’ to be the mother of all examinations and as a result, many myths
have been framed around it over the years. It is a one-and-a-half-year process
of examination with three stages: Preliminary Examination, Mains Examination
and Personality Test and recruits eligible candidates for Indian Administrative
Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS),
amidst others. In 2015 alone, the number of candidates applying for the Preliminary
examination would be approximately 13 lakh, a steep increase compared to 9.45
lakh candidates in 2014. The statistics project that the competition for the
elite services is only getting tougher with every passing year.
