UPSC Preparation: Essentials for Compulsory Indian Language Paper – Hindi

One of the papers which is most often neglected by IAS aspirants while preparing for the Civil Services Examination is the Compulsory Indian Language Paper of the Mains Examination. Many of them make the wrong choice of taking the paper for granted and totally stay away from even the basic preparation required to clear the paper owing to its qualifying nature. And here is the shocking information: Your papers WILL NOT be evaluated if you fail to qualify in both the English Language Paper and Indian Language Paper. Therefore, it is imperative to prepare for the Compulsory Indian Language Paper properly.

A candidate can chose his/her mother tongue or any one of the following languages under the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Maithili, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Manipuri, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Konkani, Sindhi (Devanagari) and Sindhi (Arabic). The Compulsory Indian Language Paper is set in such a way which would scrutinise a candidate’s command over reading and understanding momentous discursive prose, and to express his/her thoughts with clarity and precision in the English/Indian language one is interested in.
