General Studies IV: Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude made easy: Tips by Nima Arora (AIR 50)



Many of the IAS aspirants are not very certain about how to proceed with preparing for General Studies Paper IV on Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude. The recency of this paper makes it even more challenging to draw a specific pattern of questions which could aid an aspirant in his/her IAS Preparation. But then there are some hints with which a candidate can attempt to understand the expectations of General Studies Paper IV. GS IV is aimed at assessing a candidate’s approach to integrity, attitude towards uprightness in public life and problem solving skills concerning different issues and problems in the society. Therefore, it is necessary for an IAS aspirant to express his views and justify them using variegated case studies. The main topics which need attention are Ethics and Human Interface, Attitude, Aptitude and foundational values for Civil Service, Emotional Intelligence, Contributions of moral thinkers and philosphers from India and the world, Public/Civil service values and ethics in Public Administration and Probity in Governance. 

 
Preparing for General Studies Paper IV can be fun provided an aspirant choses to scrutinize everyday examples to understand the basic concepts of Ethics. It would also help if a candidate stays focused on current issues which deal with questions of moral values and justice and analyse them objectively.
