Conservation of
biodiversity refers to number of actions taken in order to ensure the health of
the ecosystems and save all forms of life on Earth. There are many factors which
pose as a threat to the biological heritage of the world such as destruction of
natural habitats, absence of conservation in ecological planning, global warming,
climate change, pollution etc. Issues relating to the environment came to the
forefront only four decades ago and since then few environmental laws have come
into being but rarely have they been implemented. Therefore, the need of the
hour is to take effective measures to mitigate the threats which are harming
biodiversity conservation.
The actions which are
necessary to conserve biodiversity includes the restoration, protection,
conservation and enhancement of variety of life in an area so that it grows
abundant in the number of species and the distribution leads to continuation of
existence and enables adaptation. There are certain types of biodiversity
conservation such as: 1) In-situ conservation: Conservation of wild flora and
fauna in their habitat 2)Ex-situ conservation: Conservation of endangered
species away from their habitat. Do watch the video below to learn more about
the importance of conservation of biodiversity.
